Son of Triangle 2007

October 22nd, 2007

Here’s a challenge for you!

Back in the day when I was a humble Venture Scout (yes that time did exist and NO there weren’t any Dinosours!) I took part in a hike for double hard b*******! It was called Operation Triangle. Well time passed by and the hike didn’t run for a few years but then it came back and behold ‘Son of Triangle’ was born! Basically….

The Son of Triangle 2007 is a night exercise for teams of 4 Explorer Scouts. The exercise involves hiking around a circular course. Teams will process along the course as directed, reporting at the various incident and checkpoints.

Incident points will be marked by red / amber lamps and will be organised by a Senior Incident Officer to whom the team must report.

The exercise consists of approximately 23km (15 miles) of hiking.

The Exercise will commence at 20:00 hours on the 17th November 2007 and end at approximately 08:00 hours on 18th November 2007. Teams will have 10 hours of actual walking time to complete the exercise from their start time.

The venue for the start and finish, together with the details of your start time and map required for the event, will be sent to you early in November 2007.

The event will be supervised throughout by Triangle staff. An Emergency contact number will be made available to Leaders with the starting instructions.

Teams will be inspected to check that the equipment and dress are to the satisfaction of the organisers at the start. They will then be issued with a route card and detailed instructions.

A high standard of map reading, precision compass work and night bearing work will be essential. Physical fitness, courage, determination and initiative are necessary if the exercise is to be enjoyed and completed.

Overnight accommodation and breakfast will be provided for competing teams Each team members need to bring a sleeping bag that will be transported to the finish by the organizers. A trophy will be awarded to the team gaining the most marks during the exercise. The presentation of the trophy will be held at 0900 on the Sunday morning.

So let the leaders know if you think you hard enough!!!!!!

Overland Hike 2007 Training and Preparation

November 26th, 2006

Overland2007 LogoOK, it’s a little way off but before we launch ourselves into the Cristmas Spirit lets start thinking about next years Overland Hike.

I strongly recommend that anyone that is interested in participating in this event reads the Ashdown District Overland Training Booklet 2007 (PDF 445Kb). It has been written and put together by Alan Thompson Scout Leader 4th Uckfield Pheonix for Ashdown Scouts however, the information is relavent to Explorer Scouts too. It conatains some very useful advice that is not only relavent to the Overland Hike but Expeditions in general.

The Tullis Explorers have been invited to participate in the Scout training schedule (see page 3). If you wish to participate in any of these training days please inform the Leadership Team. You are of course more than welcome to arrange your own training again, discuss with leaders if you need help.

Any questions or queries speak to the leaders on a wednesday night or use the contact form.
